Olivia Sims, The Fashion Network FA22 Portfolio

What was Olivia Sims’ Role during The Fashion Network UIUC FA22 Season? (Overview)

Fall 2022 was Sims’ first semester as a Junior transfer student at The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. During her first semester on campus, she was heavily involved in the fashion-oriented Student Registered Organization, The Fashion Network UIUC. Sims first involved herself with the organization in early September by joining the TFN Blog / Writing Team. She was the first writer to post on the blog for the FA22 season with her piece analyzing runway theatrics; writing a five-page paper dedicated to the work and mind of Lee Alexander McQueen. Throughout the semester, Sims remained active on the TFN Writing Team by attending weekly meetings, collaborating with other writers, and frequently editing/critiquing other writers’ work. In October, she was cast to walk as a TFN runway model for the Circular Fashion Exposition (CFE.2). Sims attended runway rehearsals, was styled by the current Creative Director of TFN, and walked the CFE.2 runway on October 29, 2022. Following this involvement, Sims modeled for the fourth and final semester photoshoot in November, Perhaps a Lack of Motif. Photographs from this shoot can be seen in Issue 10 of TFN’s magazine. Sims was then granted the responsibility of designing TFN Issue 10’s Celebratory Soiree spread for the magazine. Celebratory Soiree was the first photoshoot of TFN’s FA22 season and stood as a celebration for TFN’s 10th Issue. Sims worked under the Creative Director to design a 40+ page spread for this photoshoot using photographs and writing pieces associated with it. Sims then applied for TFN’s executive board at the conclusion of the FA22 season, and received the position as The Fashion Network’s SP23-FA23 Creative Director of Design.
